"Spreeder is free online speed reading software designed to improve your reading speed and comprehension." Based on the theory that what prevents us from reading fast is something called subvocalization (the "inner voice that paces through the text that keeps [us] from achieving higher reading speeds"), spreeder allows you to copy and paste any text into an application that presents the words to you one at a time at a rate you specify. Don't think it'll work? Check out this video and see for yourself:
How to get started:
Just follow this link, paste your text into the window provided and hit 'spreed'. Once you've created your 'spreed' you can adjust settings such as: words per minute, chuck size (how many words are presented at a time), window size and color, and/or font size and color.
How our class has used Spreeder: Brad Twining introduced us to this tool on his blog.
